1 Moley, Raymond The Hays Office
Indianapolis Bobbs-Merrill Company 1945 First Edition (stated) Hardcover Very Good Signed by Author
Hardcover with photo frontis of Moley, plus more photos inside. INSCRIBED by author: "To my old friend Don Power, with warm regard, Ray Moley (dated 7/16/45)" Power was chairman of GTE during the 40s and 50s. Author Moley was an American journalist who was credited with coining the term Brain Trust, describing Franklin D. Roosevelt's advisors during his first presidential campaign in 1932. After an interesting prologue highlighting the earliest origins of the motion picture industry, the author relates an early "insider's" version of Hay's appointment in 1922 to "clean up" the movies when public murmuring about their lack of morality became cries of outrage after the Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle murder scandal. Hays turned his political power base as former chairman of the Republican National Committee and a leading member of the Harding administration to good use for the emerging film business. Hays brought Hollywood into the ranks of the most important U.S. industries. The interior of the book is clean of any markings, light water stain on back of photo frontis, and several pencil squiggles have been erased from front free endpaper. The red cloth covers are clean, spine is sunned. Overall VG condition.; Signed by Author
