Hardback with no dust jacket. SIGNED by Rawston on front free end paper: "For Harriett Daily Collins...Clayton Rawson, regards from Catherine, May 27, '39." Rawson was born in Elyria, Ohio in 1906. He became a magician when he was 8 years old. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1929, then worked as an illustrator in Chicago. He was one of the four founding members of the Mystery Writers of America which presents annual prizes in various categories of mystery fiction. All of his fine novels were written before the founding of this group. This title is the second of his five Merlini mysteries. Merlini is a retired professional prestidigitator (magician), proprietor of a magic shop and amateur detective extraoridinare. Condition is very nice inside; green cloth covers are dappled white, particularly on spine and edges, probably from moisture. Slight spine slant. Otherwise cloth in good condition, no fraying on edges, etc. Overall a VG- copy because of spotting...if not, would definitely be VG or a bit better.; Signed by Author
