Work, Bertram (editor) Our National War Songs: A Complete Collection of Our Grand Old War Songs, Battle Songs, National Hymns, Memorial Hymns, Decoration Songs, Quartettes, Etc (With Accompainment for Piano and Organ) Cleveland S. Brainard's Sons 1883 Hardcover Very Good- Hardcover, 165 numbered pages of songs, plus publisher ads at back. Appears to be a first edition. Contains 57 Civil-War related music titles including full musical arrangements and multiple verses of the songs. Includes still-sung songs such as When Johnny Comes Marching Home and Marching Throught Georgia; to others less-remembered such as Grafted (sic) into the Army, and Starved in Prison. Songs in this volume include 18 works by the editor's uncle, Henry Clay Work, who was rated as one of the as the best of the Civil War song-writers, as well as 14 by George F. Root, 2 by P. P. Bliss, and several others. This copy has a full-color title page which duplicates the paste-on on the front cover of the book; it pictures a Civil War scirmish. ADs and table of contents at front. The pages internally are generally clean, although there are occasional smudges, one small tear. The internal hinges have started, altho the page block is solid and no pages are loose. The covers are darkened/dulled (in comparison with the title page) and have significant edgewear and chipping at bottom of paste-on; the spine is black cloth which has wear at ends and a few small splits; there are advertiser ads on the back cover. The interior is overall Very Good; the covers Good only condition. (no dust jacket) Price:
